Fuel capacity problem

So I've been watching my mpg and fuel.. On average I get 130 to a tank I even ran it completely out to where I had the reserve kicked on to go get gas. Problem here is that when I got gas it only took 2.7 gallons and it should if taken 4 gallons. I've done this a couple if time but don't understand where my gallon and a half is.

Feel lucky, I get 100.before I have to go to reserve, and that's 90% highway.

Are both of you filling to the bottom of the filler neck?

So what I'm hearing from you is that you switch to reserve, then go fill up. At that point the tank takes 2.7ish gallons.

2.7 + 1ish gal reserve = 3.7. Allowing for a bit of error, you're looking at a 4 gal tank. What's the issue?

It's hard to know how Yamaha rates their tanks, but it is fairly usual for about 10% to 15% of the tank volume to be "unfillable." That's the reason the neck extends down into the tank a ways. The unfillable volume gives room for the gas to expand a bit in hot weather, or when the bike sits in the sun.

Garage
I've been watching mine closely, and where I should be able to go 150mi between fill-ups, I usually fill up somewhere between 90 and 110mi because "hoofing it" is something I would much rather have in the recesses of the memories of my teen years.

BTW, I am averaging 46MPG over the last four fill-ups. Is this what you guys are seeing?

Try to return the bike. it's definitely a defective tank and nothing else.
