lowered bike question

I bought a 07 650 custom last year. The previous owner said he lowered the bike an inch or two. the pic below is the part that came out. Now i am trying to decide if i should put this part back in and raise it back to stock or leave it. the only trouble i have noticed so far is it is very hard to get a drain pan under the frame. what are the advantages or disadvantages to higher or lower. I am 6 ft tall, does not seem to be a problem now but can't tell what would change if i put it back up. If i did, how hard is it to put it back?

Going back to the stock height with you being 6ft, you probably wouldn't notice a big difference. But, In my opinion, I would leave it lowered. I lowered my 650 custom last year and getting that upper shock mount off the shock absorber was no easy task. Yamaha used thread lock that must be the equivalent of super glue. A friend of mine, who is a bike mechanic, and I fought that thing for a couple of hours before it ever loosened up. When we put the shorter shock mount on, we used red thread sealer, which was the thread sealer that the manufacturer of the lowering mount recommended.

So, assuming that the guy you bought the bike from did the same thing, going back to stock won't be easy.

I will agree that getting an oil pan under the bike now is hard, but I guess I would rather be able to touch the ground flat footed. I'm only 5'5"

If the only issue is geting a drain pan under the bike, just put a 2X4 under the front tire when you change oil.
