Brake pedal sticks

New to motorcycles, I've had my 03 650 custom for almost a year. My brake pedal has recently begun to stick. How involved is opening the brake assembly and what can be causing it? Do I need to worry? I've been able to lift the pedal up manually when needed.

Thanks!

Return Spring

Check that your return spring is still there ? I have lost two on my 650. Here is what it looks like.

You can check the brake shoes by looking at the indicator on the brake hub.

Thanks farmalldanzil. The spring must be missing since I can't see it in the brake line anywhere. Where is it on the bike? Your picture is very tight.

It's part of the floorboard mount right under the brake peddle, it's side by side with the brake light switch
(it's a small spring). One end hooks the the long rod going back to the brake drum and the other into the floorboard mount.

Oh. Thanks. The spring is there and my brakes are indicating like your picture on the drum housing. Any other suggestions?
