What gauge wires to buy for extending wire harness?

I'm planning to install new handlebars and route the wire harness through the bars. What gauge wires should I buy to match the existing wires.

I have a V Star 650, but I'm guessing all models use the same gauge wire.

Here's a couple links regarding wire gauge to use for 12v systems. These may give you some guidance.

I'd match the wire size of the OE harness .. shouldn't be an issue carrying the load since your only going to extend it no more than 12" .

I would recommend soldering the connections for best results and less chance of a long term issue ..ie corrosion.
