How high can mileage go?

I am curious how long my engine will last with regular TLC? Currently has 31,000 on her,but I do not know the level of care she had before me or how many owners.

She is a 98 Vstar 650 that came up from Tennesse to Nebraska. LOTS of rust on many parts, that I am slowly changing out. Just changed plugs (old were very rusty above but pretty clean below), new clutch hub (Splines were worse than razor thin) and changing oil and all filters. She does not seem to leak anywhere but does need to have a little oil added once on a while to keep her level up in between changes.

Any ideas?

There's been a lot of threads on this subject, and from what I've been able to gather, with PROPER maintenance, you can expect 150,000 miles and more out of the Japanese bikes. Again, proper maintenance is the key.

Yup that's what I've read too. At 30k you're still in the beginning stages of life for that motor.

I don't own own but it seems that a common repair is the shaft drive. But, maintained judiciously it stands a good chance of surviving the life of the bike. It's not a poor part. It just doesn't appreciate being ignored.
