Clutch or starter?

so, I have an 06 vstar 1100. Went to start it up this spring, and the battery sounded weak, didn't want to crank it over good. Started up tho, took it for a ride. Parked it for a week. Went to start it up the other day and it wouldn't crank it over. Charged the battery and it still won't. Bought a new battery, charged it overnight and it still gives half a crank and stops. Also hear a high pitched noise come from battery area when starter is engaged but not cranking. Any thoughts here?

Sounds like you may have a short in the system. A thing you could do to help out desnaging this is, to start the bike by connecting the battery directly to the starter; don't use the starter button. This removes the starter relay from the equation. If the bike starts with no issues you know it could be the relay. Once started, use a multimeter and check the voltage at the battery. This will check the charging system for proper output. And the last thing would be to have a look at the wiring for chaffed spots.
Hope this helps a bit.
