Headlight question

I have a 06 Vstar Silverado 1100 and I was wondering if I can use a 9003 headlight or do I have to use an H4 headlight? From everything I have read both the 9003 and the H4 headlights are the same just one is for cars and the other is for bikes. Does anyone have more information about this?

I've got the H4 on my bike and had no issues what so ever with it.

I have used Silver Star Ultra 9003 for several years with no issues. They are super bright and white. I'm in the saddle an average of three hours, five days a week, long commute, and they last me about a year.

The reason why I ask is because I would like a brighter headlight and I currently use Sylvania Ultra in my car. They're super bright but I haven't found them in an H4. They make them in the 9003 and from what I'm reading they're the same headlight just different numbers. Before I buy and install the 9003 in my bike I rather see if anyone had already did that to their bike.

I wish I had read your post lesblank before I typed all that out. You answered my question.

i would hate having to change out my bulb every year. might want to think about LED or HID. besides the extreme longevity, you get much much better light output.

I use the Sylvania Silver Star Ultra headlights in my car and they're almost 4 years old. That's the reason I want to put them in my bike. Bevo I originally wanted to change all my lights to LED but they're super expensive for me. I know they last a long time and in the long run will save me some money but the initial cost is high.

To reply to the life of the silverstar I average 15000 miles a year on Houston Texas pothole filled roads. I had never gotten much over a year with stock H4 bulbs. So the 9003 bulb has given me as good as original bulb but much brighter and whiter. Its always the high beam that goes out on me as I ride with high beam on during daylight hours. I'm sure the high beam run hotter due higher voltage so may shorten life of bulb. Several of my riding friends have switched to HID and from their experience bulb live is even shorter. Good luck on which bulb you choose.
