Carburetor help

Hey guys. Thanks, as always, in advance for your help here.

I rejet my carbs this morning and of course, had a hard time taking off the stock carb screws. I finally got them all off but not before something going terribly wrong.

I was using a vice grip to twist the screws off and when I turned the grip, it pulled this wire out of its socket. The rubber around it is pretty brittle and it broke pretty easily.

I'm hoping someone can tell me both what this wire is and maybe how to fix it. Thanks again for all your help. Very much appreciated. The red arrow in the picture indicates the wire in question.

That appears to be one of the carb heaters, specifically the #2, 15W; the other branch of that wire goes to the #1 carb heater, which is a 20W mounted on the side.

I am uncertain the procedure for removing and replacing a carb heater, but if you can't repair it, the part you want is #16 on the diagram here.

The carb heaters don't even click on unless the temp is below 53F.
