stator rant, and question

ok, so Im replacing the stator, coil and rectifier. who was the flaming arse who decided to bathe the bolts in red loctite? WTF? there is no need for that much loctite. bastids. there are few things that yamaha engineers should be flogged for, and this is one of them (virago 750 starter drive is another)

on to the question, is there a clearance issue if I were to replace the screws with allen head bolts?

a lot guys use allen bolts to replace the jis screws. if you warm the JIS screws and use a JIS bit with a hand impact tool they come right out. those screws are not phillip heads they're japanese industrial standard screw heads. a good fitting bit is absolutely required. get in hurry with the wrong bit and you''l pay the price of a lot of aggravation. and it doesn't take a lot of heat ether just enough to soften the loc tight

dumb bikers don't get to be old bikers

one more thing. watch the starter intermediate gear. somehow mine slipped out and would not slide back all the way allowing the cover to not go all the way on.
