Starting Woes Part Deux
Don't want to "hijack" the other thread, but having my own weird issue.
2004 Vstar 1100. Had for about 2 years now, NEVER a starting problem.
Today I rode over to get a haircut - about 4 miles. Around 85 degrees out. Bike started right up as usual, rode fine over there.
When I came out and went to start, it made a "clunk" noise. Then cranked fine, but wouldn't start. Tried giving it some choke, no dice. Tried giving it some throttle, no dice. Moved petcock to reserve just in case it had got low, no dice. Cranked fine, but no "fire"...
Turned it of (both kill switch and ignition). Put the stand down and gave it a look over. Nothing seemed amiss: no vacuum caps off, nothing leaking, plug wires secure...
Got back on, tried again, fired up but rough. Wouldn't stay running without choke. Got to end of parking lot, stopped at a stop sign. Died.
Started right up when I tried, less rough. Rode home fine, smoothed out and no more 'dying' at stop signs. About half-way home I backed the choke off and it was fine.
Got home, shut it off, turned it on, started it up and 'bam' like usual, started right up.
Haven't had a chance to really go over it yet... Just wondering if anyone has anything to suggest.
