Problems @ half throttle

New to the forum and new to the V Stars. I just built an 1100 and I'm running open exhaust with welded in baffles. Stepped up one jet size on both carbs, but cant get the bike to move past half throttle before it hesitates. Not sure if I'm rich or lean, I'm thinking I may be too rich.... but not really sure how to tell. Per some other peoples advice, if i feel its too rich, i can add more choke to essentially lean it out and see if the stutter gets any better correct? Does anyone know any good shops that are familiar with V Stars around Greenville SC? Asheville NC area, Toccoa GA area? Thanks for any and all help!

If you still have the stock intake, one jet size is plenty and usually just a PMS adjustment is needed with different pipes. You may have something else going on, like the carbs weren't put together correctly. It's easy to have a needle pop out of the holder and cause all sorts of strange stuff. Did you synch the carbs after you finished? If not, I'm guessing that's part or all of your issue. Also, what do you have the PMS set at?

To tell if you are rich or lean, just slide the choke on slightly while oyu are riding to see if it gets better or worse. The "choke" is actually a throttle advance that drops raw fuel into the carb....so if it makes a difference either way, at least you know what direction to go......if there is little or no difference you know to look elsewhere in the carb. Using the "choke" will make it much richer, not leaner.
