You're both completely right.
RedWhine is correct. A straight road with beautiful scenery is very 'zen'. You kick back, relax and take it all in. Listen to the sounds of the bike, get into the groove of it. Very "Easy Rider". Deep breaths now. Ahhh!
KCW is correct. Most straight and even roads are dull as hell. "Amber waves of grain" gets boring in about 43 seconds, and that's nicer scenery than you get on most straight-and-easy roads.
I do need to thank you both for making my realize WHY my favorite "I just need to get out for an hour or two" route is my favorite: It's a windy mountain road over to the next valley, then a straight road through amazing scenery for as far as you wish to go. Then turn and take another windy mountain road back over, and another straight 'zen' road home.
