New member from the centennial state

New member looking to get on my first Star. Have had several bikes, a little of this, a little of that. I've got the bug in a bad way. Been riding for about 20years depending on how you count it, but really have gotten into it in the last 10. Ridden plenty of bikes but the perfect number is one more. Mostly want a vstar because, well, I like them.

Look forward to joining a community of riders to talk bikes with!

Welcome from Atlantic Canada. I too got the bug a few years ago and after spending hours researching bikes, I narrowed my choice to a VStar or Vulcan. But the Vulcans have stator issues and I wasn't sure a 900 would be enough for two up riding so I went with a VStar 1100, and I know I made the right choice. Mine's a 2000 but it only had 16,000 miles on it when I got it and was well cared for. A season and half later that mileage has almost doubled and I wouldn't hesitate to ride it anywhere. They are strong, dependable bikes that have a timeless look and will give you thousands of trouble free miles if you look after them.

Thanks for the welcome! Generally speaking, I tend to like smaller displacement bikes for a couple reasons.
My competitive streak comes out if I have horsepower to play with and that will get me in trouble. Insurance tends to be lower while mileage goes up. And I have leg problems from a skiing injury. Which is part of why I am looking into cruisers in the first place. Not to mention the star is a great looking bike! IMO, from the factory the classic looks amazing

Welcome from Waldorf Md. I'm sure the rest of my VStar 950 & 950 tourer brethren will concur with my suggestion that you try the 950. I hope whatever you get you'll enjoy it to the utmost! Send us the pics when you get it!

Welcome to the forum. VStar made some great bikes, i plan on keeping my 650 till the motor falls out, and looking at getting a 1300 or 1600 next summer.

At the risk of being the bear of bad news: are you aware that yamaha has dropped the entire Vstar / cruiser bike line?

Those of us that have bikes will mostly keep them for a long time, but if you are just getting into cruiser hikes, Honda and Kawasaki make some excellent bikes too, nearly as reliable as yamaha. Suzuki and HD have some reliability issues in the long run.

The only reason i bring this up, you will put a lot of yourself into the bike you get, and you may want to consider a path that will allow you to buy a new bike in a few years. That is the one thing you cant get anymore: a brand new Vstar cruiser.

The flip side is, you should be able to find a low mileage Vstar 650 for a few thousand dollars for the next few years at least.

I was unaware that the vstar line was being dropped. Probably a marketing strategy of some type. I'm actually getting sick of modifying bikes. My VX800 ran like a champ mostly because nobody makes much of anything for them..on the other hand, I've spent close to the last 2 years getting my KLR to where it is now but that is a ton of money and work. And that's time I could have been riding. Engineers spend a lot of time and resources getting these things to last a long time and work well. Personalizing though, no one says that is not ok. I'm not afraid of rebuilding an engine or transmission though either. I don't know if I said I've got my eye on a white 09 classic... loving it! Please, somebody buy my F6B!

Welcome to the forum from East Tennessee. Iím with my fellow 950 owner, Bman950. I ride a mildly modified 09í 950 Tourer with air and exhaust upgrades. Not afraid to take it anywhere and I get great mileage and performance all in an easy to handle package. Glad you joined us and ride safely!
