Hi, I’ve just joined, living in Cairns Qld, Australia.
I recently bought a 2007 cvs1300 which had only dine 13,300klm but had not been cared for.
Several things need to been done now. Change brake fluids, change coolant, adjust tappets and sinc mixtures.
I’ve stripped the bike down to attack the tappets which looks to be very fiddly. Are there any helpful suggestions in my quest?

Welcome from Atlantic Canada, Rod. The 1300 is a nice bike and it sounds like you've got a good handle on getting your new to you ride up and running again. If you haven't already done so, make sure you check in the fuel tank for rust. That'll need to be cleaned up and resealed if you find any or it'll continue to cause problems. I have an 1100 so I'm not entirely familiar with your bike but I'm sure other members will chime in with suggestions and tips. It's always a good idea to post any questions in the appropriate forum for best response. Oh, and please post a pic when you get her back together. We love pics here!

Not familiar with your engine.

The bikes with valve adjustment bolts and locknuts are pretty easy to check and adjust. Just make sure to replace the o rings on the tappet covers.

My Royal Star V4 1300 has the shim disks. Never done one of those before. I guess it would be easy to see if its still in spec, but swapping the shims out and getting the right size.... seems like a PITA.

Your engine is the same size as my old Stryker, but I'm not 100% certain they are identical design. If they are then adjusting the valves is not that difficult, but time consuming. When I adjusted valves on mine I managed to do it without removing the intake and draining the coolant. I used longer feeler gauges I ordered from McMaster and it helped. Rear cylinder will be a bit harder to work on, but it's doable. You will also need a special tool for tappets similar to this one (that's the one for Suzuki that fit my Stryker), I believe it is 4mm.

I had to remove the tank, front upper engine bracket and disconnect some fuel lines on the belt side. Like I said manual says to remove intake, drain the coolant and remove coolant hoses, but I was able to reach the tappets without taking all that off.
