Cool hello everyone

Hey there,
A few years ago, I purchased a 2008 Vstar Silverado 1100, with only 1 mile it. Still enjoying it, the wife and I love to ride together. Loved riding on the blue ridge parkway, now have to find new places to ride.
Gonna be searching the forums - having some carb issues, but here isn't the place to ask questions.

Take care and ride safe

KT

Thanks, and Yes, I did live in NC, now east coast of VA

I have given a thorough cleaning of the carbs, broke them completely down, replaced all the o-rings in them, polished all the brass, made sure all was cleaned out with carb spray too. replaced all 8 feet of gas line, new gas pump, new gas filter, cleaned and kreemed gas tank { this was my initial problem, dirty carbs } Now finally it's all back together, purrs like a kitten when I start it up , don't even have to give it any choke. I roll the throttle and the engine quits. I am thinking this may be a PMS screw that may be too "open" ie - backed out too many turns" From what I can gather, the 'stock' number of turns should be 2. when I 'seated' them before I took everything apart - it was about 2 1/2 turns, so I restored them to this value. I am thinking I may need to turn these a little tighter to reduce the amount of fuel, and increase the amount of air.

Thanks
KT

what color is your air filter? (correct answer is WHITE)

its surprising how little dust it takes in the air filter to noticeably affect the engine performance. Also, if you did not replace the air filter, make sure you dont have a mouse or bees nest in the air box.

if it starts easily with no choke, that sounds like its running rich. If you had missed one of the tiny passages in the jets with the thin wires to clean them, it would be the opposite.

The # of turns on the PMscrews is the starting point, but if someone had put different screws in there, it could be way off.

Turning them in sounds like the logical thing to do. If you can verify which PMscrews you have, Im sure you can find the correct # of turns, again: that is the starting point for tuning the engine, you normally have to tweak them a bit to get it to run like you want.

Typically they come from the factory on the lean side, and the first thing people do is crank them out a half turn.
