Haven't gotten a V star yet but looking heavily at a used "Mechanics Special" in my area. Would you guys buy one with early signs of the middle drive issue? Its priced far below retail and from what I have read and watched (YouTube) it seems that someone that is mechanically inclined could get a this bike to 100% with an afternoons worth of work. Right now it runs and drives and will pass state inspection but is starting to develop the noise from the drive area.

Thanks in advance and will be poking around for information!

Bevo...it's the typical grinding whining from the middle drive where it seems that the yoke is about to separate from the shaft due to the nut backing off, so since dealership is willing to inspect it and it looks good, I thought what better way to learn a new bike then to tear into it to tighten and stake the nut on its driveshaft.

if it's a simple fix, then sure. if you have a failing shaft drive, then definitely not. ask in the V Star section on this site.
