With a lot of love and elbow grease, she is almost ready for the road.
I am no engineer however I have learned an amazing amount of mechanics on this bike and have enjoyed every minute! I only wish I had a lift, My floor jack and wood blocks have sufficed for the time being.
Want to know what I've done? Ok, What a mechanically inclined buddy and I have done?
When I found the bike, It had been sitting outside and uncovered in a marina for about 5 years.
We first made sure compression was good. It was at just over 150 lbs each cylinder.
We replaced the stator, regulator, battery, battery cables and wire harness.
Rebuilt the carburetors and jetted them out slightly following Big Air system requirements. You guessed it! Installed the Big Air system, oil filter relocation kit, blow back collection system and an after market exhaust that looks like and sounds like a Thunder Header 2 into 1 pipe but has not markings on it at all. Installed 3000 ignition system and finished off by extending the controls and adding a Cobra seat. I'm still going through the rough edges but she sounds OUTSTANDING and looks great. There is much more to do and I find myself working too much on her but at least I'm home and the wife can't get jealous.
