98 vstar 650 from CT

New guy here from CT...just picked up a 98 Vstar 650 with 38k on it.

Runs great and im looking forward to sneaking in some riding before the winter hits.

Im a bit of gearhead so im gonna see what kind of maintenance I can do myself.

Nice bike! Looks good with those saddlebags, too.

Welcome 98 from southwestern PA. I have to agree, that's one nice lookin machine ya got yourself there. And don't worry, liking bags on yer bike is not a sign of gettin older, just more mature.

Sitting at Dmv trying to get a plate for this thing I'm on hour 3 I think at this point. They upgraded their system a month or two back so it's madhouse with everyone catching up.

While I'm waiting...I noticed my back drum brake doesn't fully lock up the tire. Not sure if it's supposed to..I do feel some resistance to it when applied. Can I get away with the tightening that adjuster nut a half turn?

Also what regular maintenance can a guy like me do? Pretty capable of most of the basics.
