What's up from Indy

First cruiser and first yamhammer! Got an 08 v-star 1100 custom with tribal package. I have already modded the exhaust and added 2 inch risers. More to come. Do have a question, in 13 days I've put close to 400 miles on it. I've filled up 4 times, each time right around 2.5 gallons... Am I wrong in reading that the tanks are 4.49 gallons? The first time I filled up(before exhaust mod) I got 107 miles before it started puttin on me and I filled up. Only took 2.3 gallons when I filled it, yet I was out of gas.. How is this?

Another question: what's a few good sites to buy aftermarket parts? Like integrated taillights or different fender trim brackets or turn signals. I haven't checked the forum for these things as I'm brand new but I saw the milage/fuel economy posts

Welcome to the forum from north ms.
Specs say you have a 4.50 gallon tank and a single carb. What mods in particular did you make to the exhaust? I'm no mechanic, yet it appears you may need your carb rejetted since after the exhaust mod it's drinking a lot of fuel and puttin' on you. There's a lot more knowledgeable members on here than me, and I'm sure they'll chime in.
Glad you joined us, post some pics of your bike, and keep us updated. Be sure to ask your question in the vstar section as well. Ride safely!

Well I tried to do the hole saw mod where you cut 1.5 inch At the end of the exhaust and take out the one baffle tube by tugging it... Yeah that didn't work at all so I ended up having to cut the entire back coned section of the pipes and remove the center (4 chamber) baffle entirely. Not what I had in mind but I plan on buying a new set of pipes anyways and imo it sounds decent right now. I just did the AIS bypass last night.

I'm sure it's got a decent tone to it, I've seen in the past where removing the center chamber on a carbed bike caused higher fuel consumption, and a bogging down effect. Adding the new exhaust should help with both.

This is my bike as of tonight. Took of the second seat and the rear backrest and the rear fender brackets. I added 2 inch chrome risers last week. Had to relocate the throttle cable from going thru the tree to behind it.. Not sure why it was ran thru it really to begin with

So this may be a dumb question, but if you removed the rear fender supports, what's holding the fender up?

The pieces I removed aren't for the support that I'm aware of. I've only seen them called brackets on the sites I've been to or when I've Been looking for replacement ones. I put the big spacer back with the bolt I took out and screwed back into the spot so it's still bolted.
