Wink My post Afghanistan gift 2008 V-Star 1300 LT

Hey all!

I'm new to riding on the road. I've had off road stuff but this is my first hard surface ride. Absolutely love it. Who needs to pay 30K to enjoy a comfortable ride? I started shopping while I was in Kandahar and bought my baby when I got back in May 09. Now I need to make it sound better. I'll be checking the forums for upgrade ideas.

Antio!

PACMAN63, thanks for the tip on the Longshot pipes and Cobra EFI. I'll look into that for sure.

Great to hear you like your 1300. I currently ride a Shadow 750 and considering either the V-Star 950 or 1300 but a little concerned the 1300 was too much for me. How do you find performance at low speeds, in city, etc.?

Weight

Tobiquer,

The 950 weighs 657 lbs curb weight. The 1300 curb weight is 712 lbs. Only 55 lbs differance most of that weight is on the wheels.

The 950 seat height is a very low 26.5 the 1300 seat height is a more average 28.1. Don't know how tall you are but my opinion would be you will not have any trouble. I am 5'11" 200 lbs and 67 years. I ride a 1900. Ride the 750 untill you are ready and make up your own mind but I would go for the larger bike. Of course what kind of riding you do is important too.

Thanks Dave --- good advice! I'm 5'7", 170 lb so I like that shorter seat so I can flat-foot as a relatively new rider of only 2 years.
