Hi from Adelaide Australia

I'm a newbee rider and member. Don't have my bike yet but set on the vstar650 (need one that is learner approved in Oz). Read around the forum a bit, particularly looking for advice on buying. Seems a lot of kms is not necessarily a big issue.
Any advice on custom vs classic?
Any particular age of bike to avoid?

howdy. i think the only differences between custom and classic are cosmetic. mileage does play some role, depending on how much you're talking about. do you have a specific bike that you've found that you're looking at?

I own a 2004 V-Star 650 Classic. It has 25000 miles on it. Still runs like a new machine. A lot depends on how it was ridden and maintained. If you can get the owner to allow it. One simple test would be a cylinder presure check. Can tell you a lot about how a bike is doing.

The following link has a good (old) review of the VStar 650 Classic model. Inside the website it also has a review of the Custom model. Besides the front wheel, forks, and fenders, another difference could be seat comfort.

I have a 650 Classic and the seat is comfortable to me.
