Does anyone live near the San Francisco Bay Area?

Hey there everyone. I live in the East San Francisco Bay Area and I'm looking forward to the spring and summer riding this season. I have would like to find some people to go on rides with. I have never been on a ride longer than 100 miles and I was hoping to improve that number this year now that I have a more comfortable bike, but none of my friends have motorcycles (which is strange), and I don't want to go on a long ride by myself in case anything should go wrong. Who lives around me? Does anyone want to meet up and go for a ride on the weekends?

Check out meetup.com for area rider groups. There are several bike groups in my area that are very active.

Thanks for the tip! I took a look at meetup.com and it looks like there are a couple of groups near me that are fairly active.

And for anyone else reading this thread, you can still feel free to contact me if you are near and want to meet up

Hiya JStar! I live in SF (near the zoo) but I work in hospitality so most of my longer rides are weekday. As a person who usually rides solo here are my tips for the area....

Don't sweat the solo thing. There are soooo many other riders in the area that if something DOES go wrong someone is sure to stop and help. It's almost impossible to not see another rider on whatever route you end up taking.

Like Miescha said, there are lots of local riders groups. Most of them are very welcoming. Or you could look on Craigslist.. there are postings on the main bay area page. Look under community/groups/(search) motorcycle.

Take the PCH in both directions! Go north and spend a night near Fort Ross or Fort Bragg then come back through Napa or Sonoma (if in summer be prepared for a REALLY hot ride through the valley). Bring your Fastrack with you (they don't take cash on the Golden Gate Bridge anymore).

South to Santa Cruz then back up Route 17 is also gorgeous (but traffic on 17 into SJ can be a pain in the tush depending on the time/day). Or keep going south to Monterey!

Another fun ride is SR130 from SJ to Livermore then back along 84 to Calaveras road past the reservoir and into SJ again. (I pick that one up from the Dunbarton bridge/Sunol area).

If I get a free weekend I will PM you Or if you have a free weekday give me a buzz! I'm always happy to go riding

Awesome! It's good to know that there is someone in the area. I'm planning on taking a ride down Mines Road to 130 into San Jose then back up 680 to 84 and back home, it's almost 100 miles round trip from my house. I just haven't had the time yet.

I'll let you know if I ever have a free weekday open and we'll take a ride through the area

Hey Jstar, I live in San Jose and ride group rides in the area frequently...
I'm very active in the meetup local groups, and can assure you there are some great people and riders!

Groupridesforum is my favorite, followed by Four Corners and Wanderlust.

There's a fun Saturday ride honoring International Women Riders going on that you should join us on!

Lets ride!

Hey Ecoyne, I'm part of the Wanderlust and FoSMR groups. I wish I could join you for that ride on Saturday, but I am supposed to be camping and will be busy on Sunday as well.

Its good to know there is someone else in the area though. We should get together sometime for a ride. I'll send you a PM with my contact info.
