Has anyone done this before? I have plans to get this done at the end of the month with two friends. We are starting in San Diego and heading up the Owens valley to bust out some big mileage in teh AM and then doing some mountain riding during the day with Freeway to end the day up to Grants Pass Oregon where we will crash at my moms house, then we will get up early and knock out the final mileage on the way back home down the coast, crash one more night and finish the trip on day three. Probably close to if not over 2k by the end of the trip.
1,000 miles in 24 hours is difficult enough. 1,500 miles is impossible without giving up sleep completely, or much more than a 5 minute rest at gas stops.
Ouch! My ass hurts already. We, (me and the misses), are in the process of getting ours in shape for the season a little at a time. Can't seem to do more than an hour or so at any one time. Need new seats. Good luck and safe ride.
Well when I do attempt this, it will be a great time to evaluate the Ultimate Seat and backrest. So far its great, coming from a sportbike, I never thought I would be rocking a ride with a backrest !
So,I got home Yesterday afternoon, we did 2284 in 4 days. Did the 1000 in less than 24, but opted to not do the 1500 in 36 due to some unexpected delays. Really, the 1500 can be combined with the 1000, but we all agreed that it would be safer to do 700 miles one day and then 700 and end at your own home so you can sleep it off in your own bed. We would of had to cram in 3 hours of sleep, get up and finish off the 500 and it would of been a bit much. Still, had a great time and no one got hurt.
We did a nice 250 mile route to the Oregon Coast on Saturday, I will post some video of that later. Came home via the Cascades, drove through Lassen National Park, Around part of Lake Tahoe and crashed Sunday night in Bishop. Made a small detour yesterday to do Angeles Crest Highway. Great Trip!
