Chilliwack, BC: Thinking of buying a V-Star 1100

Hello forum members,

I'm seriously thinking about buying a used V-Star 1100 (the Classic, I think) for my next bike. I started with a Shadow Aero 750 then moved up to a VTX 1300. The VTX I find is a heavy, sluggish bike with huge power. The 750 was nimble but no passing power. Will the 1100 be "just right"?

I don't speed and I'm not an aggressive rider. I like cruising and putt-putting around the countryside but I do take occasional two-day trips and I'm hoping the power of an 1100 won't be too far from what I had with the 1300.

Any ideas, bikes for sale or thoughts you have, I welcome. I also wonder when Star went to a cast wheel instead of spokes. A spoked wheel means white walls (!)

Vstar 1100

If you didn't like the vtx 1300 which is a good bike as well you wont like the vstar 1100 which is a grate bike. You see with a wheel base of 65.5" vtx, 64.8" vstar and seat of 27.5" vtx, 27.9" vstar and gas tank of 4.8gal vtx, 4.5gal vstar and a weight of 678lbs vtx, 634lbs vstar they are about the same. The vstar 1100 is a very good mid-weight bike. My nephew has the 750 shadow and I would just as soon have my 650 vstar as it

My wife had a 1300 vtx and i never liked it, it felt slow, clumsy and top heavy. She now rides a 2005 RS Warrior and loves it almost as much as I do. After 10 years of riding and 7 bikes bikes between us the 1300 vtx was my least favorite. I even like her 1400 intruder more than the vtx but nothing beats my stratoliner s.

I bought my 1100 Classic a couple years ago and find it to be a great bike I have taken it on a few trips 4 days Vancouver to Montana and back, up and down Vancouver Island a few time, a few trips around Washington State and one down to Oregon with out it skipping a beat. I have made a couple mods. but nothing serious. If you go with the 1100 put on the oil filter relocation kit to save having to pull the pipes to do an oil change the longest portion now is draining the oil.

Have fun,

Just got back on 2 wheels after 20 years and was unsure what bike to get. Finally purchased a used 2002 V-Star 1100 Classic in mint condition. I was initially worried that the bike would be too big for city riding but was not the case. Low center of gravity very agile and plenty of power for riding 2 up. The only issue is that I would get a sore back and shoulder on long ride. So on the second year I replaced my stock seat with a Corbin (which sits you lower than the stock) and a pair of Baron risers. I can now ride all day and be as fresh at the end of the ride as I started. I am planning a few more mods this year.

Just love the V-Star 1100 classic.
