OK, I am breaking down and buying a windshield for my 950. I went to the yamaha dealer on Saturday to sit on the 950T wanted to get a good feel for the windshield size.
It seemed a bit on the short side to me. Coming somewhere between my chin and mouth. Sales guy says it's a 16" windshield. I have never had a windshield on any bike I have had, mostly because this is my first cruiser. 80% of the riding I do is two up.
Those that have the 950T:
What do you think of the windshield size?
Anyone do 2 up riding? and what does the other half say about the windshield?
More than likely I would go with a Memphis shade, just because of price. Either the Memphis fats or slim
I Ialso just bought a new 950 T but have not yet taken delivery. I had some concerns about the windshield because it appears much shorter than the Memphis Shade on my 750 Shadow. However, the dealer says it fits my 5'7" frame well --- only time will tell and I should get a better feel on a long and windy ride.
I have heard it said the windshield should be about nose height. The wind will then rise on up after the windshield and hit the top of your head. Yamaha does make several windshields for a 950. The quick release comes in three heights.
Id check out West End Motorsports. They sell a bunch of Memphis Shades for the 950 at a pretty decent price. Plus shipping is free on orders over $199. I think 18" is a good height. Im probably going to order the black MS Speed Demon for my 950.
My bike came with the short windshield and it makes a difference in the ride to be sure and still allows the feel of wind on the face, if you like it that way.
I have the '09 950T with the shorter windshield. Wind buffeting became an issue. I was going to spring for the next size taller replacement windshield but decided to try a set of memphis shades windshield lowers. About $80. Stopped the buffeting. Something about high and low air pressure caused by wind under the windshield. 2200 mile road trip last summer and no problems.
I have the Memphis Fats 17 inch ruby tint shield on my '09 950. On my last bike, a 1998 Suzuki Savage, I had the 15 inch black tint with matching lowers. The Fats is a very good shield but I do experience some buffeting and will be getting the lowers.
