45 may be old where you come from, but on this forum it's late childhood. Congrats on the new bike, and welcome.

I also welcome want to welcome you to the club. I've been riding off and on for the last 20 years. Last bike was a 2004 Suzuki Hyabusa. This year after not riding for 6 years I decided to put the sport bike down and get a cruiser. Bought a 2011 Yami V-Star 950 tourer last week and like you I love it. There are alot of options out there to customize it to your liking. I'm getting the Memphis shades bat-wing installed next with along with a Rush slip on muffler (to give it some growl). Installed a chrome horn cover, chrome regulator cover and chrome reservoir cover yesterday. Waiting for my Big Bar crash bar, ISO grips, tank bra, chrome neck cover, and chrome upper belt guard to come in. I'll post pix once its all installed.
