I have certain tools I keep in the truck for the common emergency situations that happen from time to time, but as a new rider was wondering what are some tools that I should keep in the saddle bag for motorcycle emergencies.

Tools that came with the bike, and 1/2 quart of oil.

Tool kit

Most of the things we could do without a lift can be done with the tool kit. Maybe not as well but it will get you home and we are pretty limited on space. I have never broken down on the road. I forgot where my tool kit was, 6 seasons without removing it. (From under the seat.)

So +1 on what redcat said.

Same here, just the tool kit the comes with the bike.
If it's anything that I can't fix with that, then she's gettin' towed. And if it's really bad, She's under warranty for a few more years.;)

Well, what the other boys said mostly. For info, as with linerdave, I been ridin since the early 60's legal, never broke down or had to use the tool kit that come with the bikes:) Yammers are tough bikes:cool: Just me, but I think breakin down would not be a worry.

Ditto on the "never broke down" comment. I ran out of gas once but that was before bikes had fuel gages on them (reserve position on the gas tank petcock but that only helps you if you remembered to switch it back to "on"). Tool kit is good, the only thing I did was swap out the cheesey pliers with a small pair of vice grips. A small roll of strong cloth type tape is a nice addition too if you have the room, or even wrap a couple feet of it around the screw driver handle.

thanks guys...the only time I've "broken" down is when I left the key on while in a cafe eating breakfast and the battery died. needede to jump start it, but didnt have the tools in the tool bag to get the cover off to get to the battery, so had to pop the clutch. I now have a set of allen wrenches in the saddle bags and will be putting a pair of vice grips in them as well. appreciate the replies

I put together a small kit that has real pliers, metric adjustable wrench, Phillips screw driver, flat screw driver, allen wrench set, spark plug socket and a small set of end wrenches. They all wrap up in a tool pouch and fits nice in the back corner of my saddle bag.I have only used the pliers and the allen wrenches out on the road but that was for someone elses bike.

Sharp very sharp. So you do read what I write. I was just checking to see if anybody
would catch that. Oh I think Lowes or Home Depot sells the left hand thread metric adjustable wrenches.
