Dude - I was driving down the road and the bike lost power and then spit and puddered and occasional backfire and started to wind down and stop. I held the clutch and that allowed be to coast down the hill and not grind to a stop. I tried to restart it while coasting down the hill, but no luck. I was able to coast into a parking spot, and the bike was totally dead. No electricity (no start, no lights, no horn, no LCD).
I hooked up the battery to the trickle charger, and it shows that it is already charged, I checked main fuse and that is good.
I checked Battery with a volt meter and it only showed 10.8 volts, so I put it on the trickle charger and it doest appear to be charging? I will leave it plugged in/connected for 5-6 hours and then disconnect and check the voltage after 1hr. I also when ahead and bought a new battery from amazon prime for $100, instead of the cheap one I got last time for $50 "ZippBattery". That battery exploded and then they sent me the wrong replacement. I was to big to fit in the battery compartment (but I managed to make it fit) and then a few months latter (now) the bike died. Oh well, the new battery will be here on Wednesday and hopefully it will solve the problem. If not then the laborious exploration and discovery process really begins...
Welcome Don to the forum from southwestern PA. My vote is for the battery. I think once you put it new one you'll be ok. Then you should post up some pics of yer ride.
Thanks Sony Snek, Sick Mick, and Rude Boi! I will also check my shop manual to see how I check the rec/reg. I am not sure if will show me how to check the stator rec though? I will report back with the results! Until then, stay clear to the sand/gravel/dirt that build up on the sides of the roads and in the turns (it will take you down and might kill ya).
Hey Guys...the new battery just arrived and the bike is still completely dead, no electric at all (no lights, horn, ignition, nothing). Sick Mick, the link you suggested requires that the bike is running to test the reg/rec. So now I guess the laborious process of stepping thorough the entire electrical system checking each component that I have information on, and replacing those that cant be tested I will start with the rec/reg since Sick Mick said it could fry the whole system (which is what the symptom is at is point ....
Hey Guys...the bike just started up! I had left a connected off when I was testing the fuses. Once I reconnected it, lifted the kickstand, and held in the clutch, maxed out the choke, it started right up

Be careful cause even with a new battery it will ride for a while. But it will start bogging down if it's the stator rectifier when you hit highway speeds for a while. Had happened to me while back.
I have a 2000 vstar 1100 classic it keeps causing my battery's fry the battery swells up I'm stumped I've changed the stator and rectifier what could be causing that and where should the valves be adjusted to on a vstar?
