It looks like I may be coming back to the Star family, in the way of a band spanking new 2015 Raider Bullet. A local shop has one that has never had gas in it on a clearance price. I love the power and looks of my FJR but I cannot make it comfortable. I am tired of trying. So if the numbers come back like I want I should have it this week.. Wish me luck.

what is the issue with the Freaking Japanese Rocket 1300?

I noticed there seems to be no option for a drivers backrest,

other than that, I have been thinking of getting one...

I could not make the FJR comfortable. I was always leaning on my hands. I loved the power, but since I have a Goldwing I decided I did not need 2 touring bikes. After a new seat I will ne able to do serious miles on this bike.

1853 cc, push rods, air cooled... very nice and simple engine design

its hard to believe that cowling can break the wind for the rider.

You want to know another part of it.. This is honestly something that affected my decision... The people on this forum. On the FJR Forum most of the people seemed stuck up.. The people here are real. I met one person from the FJR Forum in person, he was a nice enough guy. I bought a Shad trunk from him. Just not my people. No one will get along with everyone, but I get along with more on here than I ever did there. Here if someone has a question it gets answered, I noticed over there if it was a common question it would be "try googling it".

Cruiser bikes, touring bikes, and sport bikes generally attract very different kinds of people.

The 1300 was high on my list. I was going between a 1300 deluxe a 2017 Fatboy S and this bike. The Fatboy lost because Harley would not deal with me. The Raider won between the other 2 because of its power. I got addicted to the power of the FJR.

I hope that pans out for you since you seem really excited.

WTH is up with people wanting a backrest?! They're good for chairs, sofas and barcoloungers but have no place on a motorcycle! :p

**EDIT**
Oh crap, I just noticed that you have it now! Nice!!

Yup I got it, I am installing a seat with a back rest, if you never had one you don't understand. It is AWESOME. I have had one on every bike and it relieves so much stress, especially on a naked bike when you are getting pushed by the wind the whole ride and you feel like you have to hang on for dear life over 60mph.

Oh I understand. I've ridden bikes with them and hate them... I find them annoying and useless. I'm not big on the reclining riding position which is why I usually fit aftermarket bars that lean me forward a little and riding against the wind at 75 mph is an effortless all day affair. But of course a backrest makes sense for people who do like to recline but that doesn't mean I'm not going to give you a hard time about it.

once I put a drivers backrest on my 650, there was no going back to riding without it.

its not so much that you are reclining, its just something for the lower 4 or 5 vertebra to rest / lean into. It allows me to sit up straight without having to hold all my back muscles in tension. The fact that my back rest now is also a trunk is just frosting on the cake.

If some babe wants to be my warm body backrest, Im ok with that, but she better be available everytime I want to go for a ride!

As soon as my ECU comes back I will take care of that extended test ride. What you do not see in that picture is the new exhaust laying on the floor ready to be installed :)

I was never one for following the rules. I would have finished the exhaust yesterday afternoon, but had a customer call the cops on me for refusing to work on her car after her BF threatened me. LOL

thats brilliant - threatening the guy that is working on your car!

oh wait.... Florida.... nevermind! LOL
