When I shift from 1-2 there seems to be a loud clunk I can hear and feel. It gets progressivly worse with speed but is always present when shifting. It is sometimes present shifting into the other gears as well but it is far less noticible.

Also, when I accelerate in third there seems to be a whining almost electric sound. Is this normal?

My bike is a 2008 650 with roughly 500 miles. I recently changed the oil in an attempt to remedy the problem but to no avail.

Any insight would be appreciated

Noise

I'm sure if your bike is new and 500 miles your dealer will be glad to listen to the noise and tell you his opinion.
I can only tell you I see many posts of people worrying about small noises on bikes. Many just need getting accustomed too. V Twin motorcycles are noisey. Shifting can also clunk. Very likely as you get used to the bike you will start to shift smoother. I like to shift as soon after I pull in the clutch as I can.

I am sure that the transmission in the 650 is basicly the same as an 1100, which have a whine caused by the cut of the gears. Nothing to worry about. as for the clunk, shift with authority. I can't count the number of times I have missed the 1-2 shift from slacking on the shift.
