MY forks are very soft. I'm near 300 lbs and would like to firm up the dampening. Can I simply change the oil in the forks, or do I have to disassemble the forks in order to completely purge the old oil?

The bike has 34k miles, but the forks show no sign of leakage. I really don't want to disturb the seals if not necessary.

There is a drain plug on the bottom of the fork, although I haven't been able to remove mine without damaging it, you can also drain the fork oil by removing the cap on top then removing the forks and drain the oil them. Do not remove the cap with weight on the front wheel. This is the method I use. You can possibly go to a thicker fork oil. Porgressive suspension makes after market springs for both the front and rear of the vstar. The rear shock spring is basicly the same as a Roadstar spring. Might be something to look into.
Hope this helps.
