I am wanting to find a heal/toe shifter that will work on my 1996 Royal Star Tour Classic. I'm used to the heal/toe shifter and find myself trying to up shift with my heal only to find nothing there to step on. I may have to resort to making one myself or having a local machine shop fabricate one for me. The aftermarket used to be pretty good at producing new parts to customize the bikes but since Yamaha abandoned them it seems everyone else has too.

I'd take a look at some used options if it were me. I'm guessing a used bike parts seller would have something reasonable. Most aftermarket were probably discontinued some time ago given Yamaha discontinued these models.
Looking at a parts fiche (picture) it looks identical to the early model Road Star as well. My guess is that this was probably used on many similar year model machines. So I'd look closely at what you have and take some measurements for reference. Might help widen the search.

Thanks, I found three on ebay that say they are for the '96 RSTC and the linkage rod that goes from the pedal to the shifter shaft is different on them. So, I will have to go look at the toe shifter linkage rod on my bike to see which one is right.

Here is a idea, check out the diameter of the shifter post on a Yamaha stratoliner deluxe any year I believe they all have them I know mine does 2014 then go back on the years they all are the same problem solved ..I hope this helps you out with your search 🙂 😊

Might be a possibility. I have found that the pedal itself is not the problem. The linkage from the pedal to the transmission is the questionable part. I found two heel toes on ebay that are supposed to be a fit for the '96 RSTC but the linkage is completely different on the two of them and I'm not sure which is right.That is why I'm considering making one myself or modifying the toe shifter with an add on heal shifter. Yamaha is no help as they have pretty much purged their system of parts and data about the bikes. I did manage to get a Yamaha service manual and a Chilton's service manual so maybe they will help with this project. Thanks for your suggestion.

Mine is a 2 piece system if you don't have a long enough shaft for the shifter pull on it it should pull out more or tack weld one on the back and inside then re install its not like it has to hold your body weight I would think it would be fine,,just a thought .

I have a lever and belcrank from an early roadstar, if they fit you can have them.

when you get a chance shoot me a pic, I might be able to make them fit the set up. I can't think there is too many differences on parts like that other than the length of the linkage and like you said a little spot weld here and there and it would do the job. There are a lot of parts in the star line that are interchangable. Thanks
