Hello all I am new here and would like to first of all say hi.

I just bought a 1999 V Star 650 Classic and I am not familiar with parts and not, but I was looking into buying either slip ons on or exhaust system to make the motorcycle sound as loud as possible. I have looked into Hard Krome 2.75 Inch Big Straights Chrome and they sound amazing, but the price is a little too much, Hard Khrome also sells the Drag Slip-ons and that is more my price range. My question is that I know the slip on wont sound as loud, but will they be sufficient. And if not what would you guys suggest for me to buy that is between $300-400. Thanks for the time to read and reply!!!

Any straight pipe ( no muffler or baffles) will be loud. The shorter pipes will be the loudest. I would suggest a system, whether slip-on or complete, have removeable baffles. This way you can tune the exhaust for best performance vs noise.
just my 2 cents worth.

get a set of Vance & Hines Cruisers or a set of Roadburners, both great pipes!

You can drill holes in the end of the pipe...some will cut out a half-moon shape connecting 3 holes in the 9, 12, and 3 o'clock positions.

Anything more will require re-jetting. In that case, might as well put a hypercharger on it, as well. With the stock pipes, you can gut them and remove the baffles, which will liven it up considerably--but as I said, it increases air flow, thereby requiring you to re-jet.
