my 2006 1100 v-star started idling rough and when I would excellerate it would bog down like it wasn't getting enough fuel and would backfire thru exhaust
One thought maybe only one cylinder is fireing. Might take a look at plugs.
Did it just start doing this or is the first thing after being stored all winter. Lots of people having trouble ofter winter storage. If it runs you might try Sea Foam carburetor cleaner. Half a can to a tank of new gas.
If it started all of a sudden, check the valve timing. It sounds like possibly that the valve timing could have slipped. I had this happen at around 30k on my 06 1100. The factory did not tighten the cam timing bolts correctly. Just a thought.
I have the same bike had the same issue at about 15K miles or so. The problem was the carbs were out of sync. I took it in, had them sync'd and all was good.
Good Luck Marine
