2006 VStar 1100 Custom speedometer/odometer problem

I have an 06 VStar 1100 Custom. As I was riding today, there was a weird noise. The speedo and odometer stoped working. I checked the fuses, all appears normal. Any advice?

im having a similar problem, have you figured it out? where are the fuses at

Do you have a high pitched whine that follows bike speed during coasting regardless of whether or not the clutch is engaged? If so this is not good. Check out my post Middle gear shaft breakage.
This is a problem with some 06 1100's, the nut that sets the backlash for the Middle gear shaft snaps off for no reason. (shaft is brittle). You can see the nut by removing the left hand side cover and pulling back rubber boot for driveshaft, nut is visible by the u-joint.
