Hi, I am debating between getting a low mileage 2007-09 V-Star 1300 Tourer versus just springing for a good deal on a new leftover model from 2012-13.

1) Have there been any significant changes to the newer models, as compared to the 07-09 models?
2) Can anybody suggest a Yamaha dealer within 200 miles of southwest Indiana (Louisville to St. Louis, Indianapolis to Nashville) that gives great deals on new models?

Thanks!
Gary

Dreyer Yamaha (actually Dreyer Motorsports) in Indianapolis is where we go...husband has dealt with them for YEARS, and they're pretty much right down the street. We've had no problems with them, but I have heard of some people that weren't exactly happy with them, (but hey, it's a dealer). As far as differences, we have an '08 1300T, and when the deluxe came out, husband considered a trade..visually, the only differences I see are the batwing fairing, electronics (radio and nav),the hard bags are color matched and a bit bigger. Mechanical wise, pretty much the same bike...so *guessing* the other 1300 models would be the same. We bought both our 650 and the 1300 with Dreyer, and our 1300 had almost 4k on it when we bought it (2 years ago), now over 12k. As far as deals on new models, just have to call and see what they'd do for you!

I can't recommend a dealer, but I can say that there are significant ergonomic differences between the '09 and '12 V-Star 1300. The new models sit lower to the ground, and have a re-shaped handlebar that pulls back closer to the rider. I think the position of the rider's floor boards changed slightly too, but I'm not sure. In your shoes, I would definitely try to sit on both vintages and see which one is a better fit.

The handle bars have changed some to make them more comfortable. I don't think there has been many other changes, but I could be wrong.

I bought my 2007 as a leftover new one in 2012 for about the price of a used one of the same year at Westfield Powersports on the North side of Indy. They have a listing on their website of what is in stock. Josh was my salesman; he was not pushy but answered my questions and let me figure out what I wanted. I went in to look at a used 950 and left with a new 1300 for less money.

Also, it may be a bit farther than what you want to travel, but I have visited Sportland Motorsports in Champaign IL. They had LOTS of new and used bikes to choose from with decent prices. I always figured that if I can save enough money, it would be worth the drive, but I could not find a better deal than the one in Westfield.

Yes the bars have 3" more pullback on 2010 and newer. If you get a good deal on older one for 125.00 dollars you can just buy 2010 bars and they bolt right on and no need for new cables. I have 2007 1300T and I am looking at doing the bar swap.
