Anyone notice a power loss on acceleration after installing a 240 rear tire compared to the stock 210. I've read a couple people have noticed it. I need a tire shortly and would like something a little taller sidewall.
My dealer says they won't install it on a stock 7.5" rim for liability reasons. anyone else run into this or is my dealer just being a P.I.T.A
Thanks, Mak

Does the kickstand still work properly? I've seen on another forum, someone stating they had to alter theirs. It may have been a bigger tire though.

Thanks for the reply, Mak

your dealer is being lazy. There are tons of people running a 240 or even a 250 on a Raider. Only issues people run into is if their Raider is slammed and has a 240, then it bottoms out easily, this has the tendency to alter the state of the wires that run under the fender to the tail light :p

Head over to RoadstarRaider.com theres lots of info on all mods there (if you can get approval to join.....)

I put a michelin commander 240 on my Raider in July. It feels a little less snappy out of the hole. I think it is because the 240 is taller and the Metz 210 squats when you gas it. Once you get rolling, i did not notice any performance loss. I also like the fact that bumps in the road we're cushioned better, and the speedometer was only off by less than 1 MPH.

240 tire vs 210

Thanks for the reply. I was starting to think no one looks at posts or just doesn't care. That's kind of what I figured about the initial take off power being slightly less. How is your 240 wearing, can you tell yet? Actually I have almost 9000 miles on the stock Metz. and still have a little left maybe 500-1000mls I'm guessing. Most of my riding is 2 people, which by the sounds of it is pretty good. I like the idea of having a slight bit smoother ride over bumps. The dealer told me he would not install it for liability reasons but I have found another shop that has no problem with it. He did mention that the wear miles would not be as good being the tire balloons a little due to squeezing it on a stock rim though. It's probably too early to tell on yours yet?
Thanks again for the reply.

9000 miles on the Metz riding 2 up is great. I only got 6000. I also ride 2 up most of the time. The main reason i went to the 240 was to smooth out the bumps some for my wife. What i have read from fellow Raider owners the 240 tire life is much better. I have 1400 miles on the Michelin and i can still see the parting line from the mold in the center of the tire. A Lot of Raider riders like the Avon 240, I believe it is not as tall as the Michelin. Time will tell, if I don't get 10000 miles out of the Mich, I will try the Avon.

What model Michelin tire did you put on? The aspect is the same as the stock 240/40/18"?

Thanks again, Mak

tire size

Thanks for the info. Looking forward to getting a taller and wider tire this spring. I hate the thought of another winter!! Hopefully it's not like last year. Still trying to enjoy whats left of the fall but getting a little chilly and intermittent rain.

Ride safe, Mak

Sounds like the same weather we are having! You aren't in Michigan are you? If the weather forecast is correct next weekend will be good riding weather. Then it may be time to put the bike away for the winter. Then the PMS (parked motorcycle syndrome) starts in.
Ride safe!

The tire manufacturers recommend for the 240s a 8 to 9 inch wide wheel the stock 7.5 squeezes the beads closer therefore raising the center of the tread surface so you really don't gain any thing from going to a 240 other than a little bit of height and warring the center out sooner.
