950T Handle Bar Change

2105 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  linerdave
Hi everyone,
I just purchased a new 950T and am thinking about changing the handle bars. The stock bars are too wide for me. I was wondering if anyone has changed their bars without having to drill, change cables etc. Was also wondering if Yamaha offers a good alternative. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks

I am short (5'2") - the handlebars seemed wide to me also, but after adding 3" risers, they feel fine. Hubby did re-route the handle bars to front of the T but did not have to add more cable. I may get longer cables and change them out to chromed later, but for now, I just wish he would finish all my mods and chromming.... so I could ride..... :)
Oh- Yeah - someone told me that you could put RSTD handlebars on it. But I think you do have to change out cables for that. But the RSTD handlebars are better.
Maybe it is the rise and pullback and not the width of the bars. Do you have a backrest?
Hi and thanks for the response. Do you think you could post a pic of the bar setup? I'm curious how you moved the bars to the front of the tree.
thanks

What I meant to say was - he re-routed the cables to in front of the handlebar tee. He's not moving my handlebars - just the cables because they are too short to stay behind the handlebars near the windshiled. Sorry about that. and when he finishes I can post pics if you still need me to.

If you get some new bars and are interested in selling your stock 950 bars, let me know.

Thanks

Ha - thought that sounded mighty strange Donna :)

Take a look at these risers and riser w/tach.

Cruisers have a look you will addapt to it some. I would ride for a while before you decide to jump. Its early.
