Last month here in South Australia we were lucky enough to have 2 long weekends, those being Easter and Anzac weekend. My wife and I loaded up our trusty '07 650 V-Star Classic and headed off to explore the mid-north of our State. On Easter Saturday we travelled to a tiny town called Lyndhurst which is starting to get into our "outback" country. Rode back to our accommodation that day - a total of 700 k"s (about 435 miles). Did a smaller ride on Sunday and back home on Monday. Saw some great wildlife, kangaroo's, a fox, wedge tail eagles, lizards and a flock of galah's (parrots) that flew up suddenly from the road side and almost took us out!!

The next weekend we travelled in a north westerly direction and visited many of our towns in that direction and back home via our main coastal highway. Did a combined total of just over 2300 k's (1428 miles). The bike perfomed faultlessly. Our legal speed limit on our main roads here is 110 k's per hour (68 mph) which the 650 purrs along nicely at. Would like to hear of some your riding experiences in your part of the world. Regards - Aussie, Adelaide, South Australia.

Ride

Aussie,

Sounds great, glad you and wife were able to get in a great ride. I live in the norther US, in Ohio.

When I ride I often head for the hills. Lots of twisty foot hills roads with in a few miles of where I live. Some small mountins a few hundred miles away. Search, Blue Ridge Parkway, and Tail of the dragon, you will see a couple places I have been. Once rode out west to the Rocky Mountins in Colorado with my son. Big mountains there getting above the tree line. Boring ride on a freeway to get there. Couple of these trips got over 3,000 miles (4828KM). Spread out over a couple of weeks.

I'm retired, sometimes a few of us ride up to the a little tourist town on one of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie, and have a burger and a beer for lunch. Get an icecream cone on the way back. Little over 100 miles (160KM) round trip. Give it a while to get rid of the beer.

I ride a Stratoliner. Not sure what this year has in store. Its early in the season often cool here now. Your season may be over?

Sound like a couple of nice rides down under. Taking next weekend off and heading with the girlfriend over the mountains to Yakima, WA to watch a friend race stock cars. Weather is not supposed to rain. We'll have to wait and see.
