I've hit this issue a few times over the past 2 weeks. I was trying to figure out which ad it was but haven't been able to do so. It locks up my browser so that I have to use the home button to switch apps, close it, and reopen. Just a minor annoyance, but wanted to mention it in case you can find the culprit.

Have you tried clearing cookies and cache? Is there anything on the site that makes you think it's the ad?

Ads are the only active content on the page that varies. It only happens intermittently. The page mostly loads but once the ad starts to load is when it freezes. I can try clearing cookies but this is the only site giving me this issue, including other forums I frequent.

Are you signed in to your account when you are coming accross the screen locks?
By chance, are you able to grab a screen capture of the ads for me?
