Hello,
I am in the midst of buying a 2005 v star classic with 4K in the odo. I was wondering are all the v star 650's shaft drive? Does this pose a problem when trying to dismount the rear wheel? Are there any known problems with having a shaft drive opposed to belt/chain drive? Any input is appreciated

im 26, have a wife, 15 month old son, and a dog, I have a 2005 honda trx 400, a 2004 honda ex250, a kawasaki KX450F, I have been riding street bikes since I was 15, mostly honda cbrs, had a couple gsxr's (Junk, I hate suz-suky) and a couple yamaha's. Look forward to meeting you!

Rear wheel

I do believe all V Star 650's are shaft drive. Shaft drive have been over all pretty reliable. The advantages of one over the other are not great. Shaft drove is proven and reliable. Belt drive has a little less loss. Chains need some attention now and then.

The Wheel assemble comes off together. the final drive and shaft with the wheel. So some more work and a little lubricaton in the final drive and splines.

You can look up the rear wheel removal in the shop manual. This is for the 1100 V star. They are very similar.
