When you Vacation on your bikes do you prefer Basecamp or Keep on Truckin. Do you like to stay somewhere and ride the area or change places every night. My first big rides were Keep on Truckin the last half dozen were Basecamp. What say you?

Every summer my cousins get a cabin in a state park in the NW corner of Pennsylvania. They have a neighbor who tows a trailer with all the stuff needed for the week, and we show up with our motorcycles loaded down with nothing.

The National Forest is motorcycle heaven, there are many places to go within a 150 mile radius. We have been doing this for 10 years now, and it never gets old.

When I do go 'touring' I take a pocket full of cash, a change of underwear, and my tooth brush.

Nothing ruins a motorcycle ride like 200 pounds of crap stuffed in your saddle bags and trunk.

I am spoiled from living in upstate NY. I can pull out of my driveway and ride in any direction for 1 to 8 hours, and have a great ride, and end up at a great destination, and stay overnight or be back home the same day. There are other parts of the world that I would like to ride thru on my MC, but I dont have to grunge it out for days at a time on the interstate, to get to a good place to ride.

Right now, I am keep on trucking kind of guy. Going on a 1400 mile in 4 days. I have a backpack worth of clothes, (Maybe an extra 40lbs?) If need be, some place I can wash & dry clothes.

Next trip maybe base camp. It all depends on who is going and what our goal is.

To me it's easier to base camp. You can haul your necessities, unload and do day rides without the extra weight. Worked great earlier this spring for wife and I.

After 6 or 7 years of basecamp I'm taking a long weekend and staying in a couple of places. We have a lot of new members I wonder what they have to say?

I just do day trips. I will not ride the interstate. I just grab a county trunk and see where i end up. Home every night.
If I lived where you or KCW lived, I'd day trip all the time. Besides being hot, it takes me most of an hour to get out of the city and longer yet to get far enough beyond it to feel free of it. I have to drive half way to the Red River to put Dallas and suburbs behind me.

Went to visit an old boss up in KCW's vicinity last year as a side trip so I was in a car. He showed me around. I could ride that area every day. Topography, water, history, and a constant parade of places to stop for refreshment. You could ride the same road and still have anew experience each time. And it isn't 100+. It also wasn't winter, so there's that.
