I have an '03 1100 that has a Memphis Fats windshield. It has the quick release mount that is tucked in behind the headlight. I've been thinking of upgrading to a Memphis Shades batwing fairing and have been told that I will need to install the new trigger lock mount for the batwing.

Does the trigger lock mount for the 1100 Classic go around the forks? Is it all that different from the other mounting system?

While I'm at it, if you have a Memphis Shades batwing on your 1100, how do you like it?

Does your trigger mount to the forks by way clamping around the upper fork? If so than the side plates will fit the Memphis batwing.
I replaced my windshield with the batwing and I don't notice much if any difference between the two. But I like the look of the batwing as even more people are baffled to what kind of bike is it.:D

My mount uses Allan bolts to hold the plate, and it is located behind the headlight. Not on the forks.

I agree that the batwing looks great, but I'm also hoping to get some wind protection for my hands. I do quite a bit of spring and fall riding and warmer hands would be appreciated.

I had the Memphis Shades windshield, and upgraded to the batwing fairing on my 2002 Classic. I have the mounts fastened "behind the headlight" as well. I did not need new mounts when I switched over. These are not the quick release trigger mounts for removing the shield/fairing, but are held in with four fasteners that are loosened/tightened with an allen key. I believe they are the prior generation of mounts, but unsure as I bought the windshield and fairing used.

I did (if I remember correctly) have to swap the left and right side of the mounts (the 1/2 that were on the shield) to the opposite side on the fairing.

Also, love the fairing. Much better wind protection in the cold, less head buffet, and I bought a short (5") shield for the fairing for summer riding.

Note the white puck in the center of the picture is a rubber snubber I added to push the fairing forward a little as the shield was getting close to my mirror arms at higher speeds.

Yes the trigger locks goes around the forks. The old mount you could toss once you get the new one. BTW don't over tighten the trigger lock mount it will crush the sleeves around the forks on a classic. My buddy is fixing one right now at his shop a guy did that way... Dont ask me how he did it but I almost waited around until he came to pick it up just to ask.

Hello Batwing fairing owners! This is a little off your subject, but thought it best instead of creating a new thread. I found this one.

My question: I'm purchasing the MS batwing fairing, but don't know what windshield size I need for the top. I'm 6-foot, male, and the measurement should come from the top of the fairing, slanted, to be level with my nose as I look over the fairing, right? So, anyone out there that is 6- foot and can recommend a good size windshield off the fairing for me? I'm overseas so it's difficult to find a shop to do some measurements on my own. Thanks.

To answer the Marc, I love my batwing. It offers good wind protection and I get no buffeting. I do recommend that you get the quick release mounts for those days that you'll want to experience bug smashing on your head or just want to feel that breeze at 70 mph :D.

For KNic, I'm 5'10" and find that the 9 inch windshield is the one for me. I also have a 5 inch just to cruise around town. I would think that you could go with a 12 inch screen and should be fine with it. If it proves to be to high, you could always have it cut to fit.

Memphis fats and the batwing take the same mounting brackets. I just install the fairing on my wife's 1100 custom using the fats hardware from her windshield. look it up on Memphis shades web site, look up fats and then fairing mounting kits you will find they have the same part numbers. This saved a bunch of cash, better in my pocket than someone else!:D

Do you guys recommend the clear windshields verses the tinted or black ones? I'm new to having windshields or fairings so not sure what the advantages of each are. I'm assuming the clear ones allow better visibility? I like the look of the tinted ones better.

I prefer the spoiler shield, it helps direct the air over you and still be able to see over it. I think it looks better too!

Hello, trying to install the fairing today on my 950T, but looks like I ran into a snag with the Allen wrench size. Anyone do this after removing the stock windshield? You will need a bigger allen wrench. If I remember right it is a 6mm, if your planning on doing any work to the bike it would be a good idea to have a good variety anyway.

Yes - It is a 6mm allen - but be warned - I had a lot of locktite on my bolts so they were a major PITA to get out. Finally had to grind down the head to remove them. The allen rounded out very easily....

If they put locktite on the bolt, use a heat gun to warm up the locktite. I have used a heat gun on stuck brake bleeders and locktite to get them loose.

Hey team, update & another snag in installing the fairing: got the bolts off & put the new brackets on. However, I couldn't snap the fairing on all the way (have the trigger lock mounts). I tried adjusting fairing height & lock bolts on the side, & moved brake lever bracket over since all that seemed to get in the way as possibly the problem. I pushed & leaned on it; none of which seemed like I should have to do that to get it on. Nothing helped, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something? Any tips out there who've put this sucker on your Yam950T? Thanks.

Update: got the fairing on! The techs at Motorcycle Superstore told me to try loosening the quick-lock bolts cause it may be not aligned. That was the ticket. Now I'll get the windshield on and take some photos for you to see. Happy again!
