Adjusting belt tension
On. Side stand. 0.30 to0.51 with 10 lbs of push .

On suitable center jack 0.50 to0.83 with 10 lbs of push.

You can use belt gauge YM03170

You can also guess at the 10 lbs. and use the marks on the belt cover to measure. The deflection..

10 lbs isn't much push. Get a feel for it on your bathroom scale with your finger.p

Another easy way with no tools to ballpark belt tension is to twist the belt with your fingers. You shouldn't be able to twist it past 90 degrees and getting it there should offer a lot of resistance. That not only tests belt tension but the stiffness of the belt itself. When they get soft they don't usually have much life left.

Cheers

A couple different HD mechanics have told me that & I've seen it on different forums. I've been checking mine like that for about the last 25000 miles & I haven't seen any difference in it. It's a Kevlar belt, it'll probably take a lot more than my fingers to break it. ;) In fact I don't think I've ever got it past about 60 degrees.
