Hello everyone,

I have an 05' silverado 1100 I herited from my brother. It has a breather on top of the rear differential that is leaking fluid. What is the breather for? How can I get it to stop leaking (remove or replace?)?

Thanks

Tom

since this is a breather and its spilling fluid, I'd first check the fill level. Is it just oil coming out, or is it thicker(like an emulsion of oil and water).

diff breather

Sorry for the delay. I didn't see or feel any water in the diff. fluid. It did have bubbles. I've taken the bike it out a couple of times since I last posted this question and no fluid has leaked out. I will change it, this seems like a good idea. I described the problem to the local parts guy at the Honda/Yamaha dealership and he suggested I twist and pry the breather cover at the same time to get it off. I tried that and the cover broke off leaving what appears to be a small breather hole exposed. I either have to figure out a way to reattach the breather cover or replace it. From what I can tell there is no way to unscrew it from the top to replace it. My only other thought is that the parts fich shows some type of stud that can only be accesses when the wheel is off. Any thoughts out there?

Best

Tom
