Hi - I would like to install a cigarette lighter on my 2007 V-Star 1100 Classic. Need it for GPS and Cell Phone, etc, My question - Is it very hard to install? How do you do it?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Lighter plug

Joe,
I do not have a V Star. but I installed the polarized pigtail that came with my battery tender. the tender also had some options one of which is a cigaret lighter receptacle with matching polarized plug. So in the summer I fold this up under my seat and plug into it. It is not something that would work well running down the road but is good for charging GPS and cell phone. I can flip it out under the seat and put it in the bag out of sight. You need to be careful the wire does not get pinched. This could be serious.

I believe on the V Star you might put it in you tool compartment. Don't know if you might get lucky and find a lighter outlet with a pigtail at an auto parts store. Might be worth a check. A little ingenuity would be required to mount one that looked good and stayed dry.

I have one on my 2002 1100 Classic. i installed it under the left side of the Rider's seat with tie wraps. (sounds ugly but you can't see them). All you can see is the Billet Ingraved Flames. At 70mph it's easy to light a Marlboro. I can always use my GPS or power for my MP3 player without the cord flappin in the wind. The whole process took 15 minutes to install and gets alot of compliments.
or you can put this on your handle bar

I just ordered this and should hook straight upto the battery. I don't for see any real hardship in doing this.

It is very straight forward. However since lighter draw sometimes varies, I would replace the fuse holder with a circuit breaker of the same amperage. If the breaker blows it can re set. Blown fuses when run in conjunction with the factory harness (hidden), can be a bitch to trace or replace on "the run".
Good luck. You'll find that this inexpensive addition will provide unlimited choices with MP3 players, GPS, Cell Phone as well as using it to light your smokes (if ya do).
