2014 vstar 950 Tourer, 14,000 miles. When I'm at a complete stop and really get on the throttle at the green, I will sometimes get a clunking sound from the rear wheel. It almost feels like the belt is slipping, but that seems unlikely due to the teeth. I don't crank on it for every start, but when I do and really torque it, I get the clunk. Any ideas?

I think your first guess is correct. Mine did that when I had a small chunk of asphalt stuck in the belt. When that "tooth" got to the rear pulley, it would jump a tooth. Ended up ruining a few things.

It could be that it just needs adjusting, too. Manual says check it every 2500 miles. DO NOT SET IT AS TIGHT AS THE SERVICE MANUAL SAYS. If you look around on this site there are a few discussions on 950 belt tension, but I run mine at about 10MM movement instead of the 5MM the manual says. I do use the adjustment procedure as described in the manual, but don't set it as tight. Numerous instances of rear pulley bearing failure from over tightening the belt.
