I tried a reshaped seat for Pacific coast cycles. I thought it was worse than the stock seat. Just my opinion. I have since bought the Yamaha aftermarket seat (corbin). has been a great seat for the past 35k miles. Spend the money your butt will thank you.

The only thing that I can relate to your questions would be the airbox mod. I own the 950 Tourer, and I removed the airbox and drilled 3/8" holes vertically in the housing, on what is the front and back of the housing as it is mounted on the bike, 6 holes vertically per side. I did the exhaust mod for the 950 as well. With the 2 different mods, there is a noticable difference. Not a night and day difference, but I can tell before and after. I havent posted any pics of the airbox mod as of yet, but I could send them to you, or if someone tells me how to post them here, I will be glad to!

Airbox Mod for 2007 1100 Classic

Are the mods shown (in altsale.com/airmod) for the 2002 Vstar the same as can be accomplished for a 2007 Vstar 1100 Classic? Are the airboxes the same? is the AIS system a concern if perform all the airbox, exhaust and jetting mods suggested?
My stock 2007 is quite anemic and I am looking for suggestions on the way to wake it up.

Thanks.

Performance

Can't help you on the Air box. AIS is Air Injection System. Some air is injected into the exhaust to burn off unburned gas. I would believe it has little to do with performance. More to do with popping on deceleration.

I understand if you "free up air flow" air in, and exhaust out, then re-jet to restore proper mixture you will see some increase in performance. I hear big variations in how much.

I would try looking at it a little different. An 1100 is a medium sized cruiser. You might set it up to sound and feel really cool when cruising down a back road at 50 MPH. That is its strong point. You could spend a lot of money and some kid on a sport bike would still make you look bad. My 1100 did not break any records but it was adequate. I had no trouble on the Interstate or in town. It did not win many races but just a nice riding and feeling bike. I moved on to a Stratoliner. Much more power but I still watch out for that kid on the crouch rocket.

Dave, your posts continue to show level headed thought and maturity, they deserve to be pondered upon by all who read them. I have identified with so many of your points.:)

with most of these cheap mods, especially the ones shown at http://www.altsale.com/airmod.htm, i don't think they're really adding any performance to your engine. the school of thought here is 'more air = more power'. generally, this is true. but just making bigger holes in your airbox doesn't necessarily mean more air is getting to your intake.

seems like most of these mods might allow more air into the box, but it doesn't get properly funneled inside. the air is probably just getting tumbled over itself and trapped inside the box because it doesn't have the proper engineering to to push the air inside.

Air flow

Bevo,

Excelant thought. Another idea might be. Factory air box is restrictive. Maybe to reduce intake noise. Bigger holes, more air, more noise. Don't know this for a fact but a thought. On my Stratoliner, some claim to get an noticable increase of power by just leaving the top cover off the air box. Or do we just expect to see an increase and so we do? Often gas mileage goes down. Best mileage seems to be as it comes out of the box. Most of us would be happy with just a little extra rumble.

Just me, but some good feet on ground thought.
