I was thinking of installing a cruise control on my 09 1100 classic to alleviate hand cramping on long hauls. I like the refined look and safety aspect of the Brake Away model but not the $200 cdn price. Does anyone have any recommendations.

just get a throttle boss. costs about $15 bucks and Kuryakyn makes a couple good ones. can probably get a cheaper one for under $10. i have a Kuryakyn throttle boss for their transformer grips and it's amazing, don't even have to grip the throttle, just rest my palm on it and use my wrist to delegate speed.

Throttle lock

Stargazer,
I have seen some actually put a cruse control on bikes but, it does take some modifications to make it work. I have a Throttle Mister. It looks good on the bike. Doesn't look added on. You replace the chrome ends on your handlebars. But not cheap $150 if I remember right. Is basically a adjustable friction brake on the throttle. You snug it down until the throttle stays in place.

It gives you time to move your hand around but, a long way from a cruse control. Frequent adjustments are needed.

Yeah, I run one called a throttle rocker (I think it was called,) but it really takes the strain out on a long run, feels relaxed. If I remember right, it cost somewhere between 10-15 bucks.

Cruise Control

Ditto for cramp buster, a very well spent $10. Works just like throttle rocker; but, a little larger for the ball of your hand to rest on. I've used both cramp buster and throttle rocker.

Thanks Everyone
I think I'm going to go with a pair of ISO grips and throttle boss. I have too many other mods to do and can't justify sinking all that coin into a cruise control.
Thanks again for your help.

Well I opted for a set of Iso grips and a throttle boss. Definitely not a cruise control but it worked fine on a 450 km trip the other day. At least I could open up my hand and relax it for awhile. I'll see how it goes in a month on my big trip.
Thanks everyone for your replies.

I installed a throttle lock when long rides sucked the blood out of my hand. I can hold my arm down and stretch. It cost around $30. Best money I ever spent. You have to adjust it when going up or down hills ... no good for Tail of the dragon.
