Hi guys and gals, I had a weird thing happen to me the other today. I was going for a ride and was cruising along when all of a sudden my engine popped a few times and just quit. I pulled over, put the tranny into neutral, turned the key to off and then on and the darn thing started like there was nothing. A few miles down the road the same thing happen so I did the same as before and it's been fine since.

Anything like this ever happen to any of you and what was the fault, fix or ....

I didn't hear it pop. The guy I was riding with told me that he heard a few pops. It was weird, felt like the electrical just turned off but once I reset the key switch all was fine. I did listen to see if the pump was ticking before starting but I didn't hear it. This would of indicated to me that the carbs would of been empty hence a blocage. Maybe being busy to pull over safely I missed the pump noise. I'm going to pull the fuel line from the tank and check the fuel for deposits, might even change the filter just in case.

Hey Bud, judging from your description, I'd be thinking along the lines of bevo, maybe something clogged up, then cleared up. I'd definitely check the fuel filter, but that's just me.

was at a recent bike show with my 05 classic and had a guy told me to keep an eye on my voltage regulator under the battery. he said they go bad sometimes and will just kill your bike mid roll. might be something to check out

Check for water in your fuel....as well as all of the above. I'd definitely put a DVOM on the battery while it's running to test the reg/rec at idle and at 3500 RPM just to make sure it is in spec. That has always been a weak link on the 1100's.

Well it's back to square one. The darn thing quit on me again on the highway. Did the same as above and all is well once again. As soon as I can get to it I'm going to check the kill switch, ignition switch and the wire bundle I played with when I changed my shock. If this happens again and I can't find the issue; I'm just going to have to look at getting a Roadstar or a Strat :D :D :D

Sorry to hear you're having the same issue again my friend. I agree that maybe a roadie or a strat just may be the best alternative.

Next time it does it flip the kill switch off & on a couple times and see if it fires up. Not a very scientific test but may tell you something anyway. I'm guessing you don't know the answer but when it cuts off do you lose your lights as well? Curious if everything electrical quits.

I'd definitely look at those wires you handled while changing the shock. I often go by the rule of "what's the last thing I did?" when something unexpected happens...
